Planning a pregnancy: a preconception checklist
5 min read
A few months of preparation before conceiving can make a meaningful difference. Here is what a preconception review usually covers.

Why preparation helps
The earliest weeks of pregnancy often pass before it is confirmed. Preparing in advance means health conditions, medication and nutrition are already optimised.
What a preconception visit covers
- Review of medical history and existing conditions
- Review of current medications for pregnancy safety
- Advice on supplements such as folic acid
- Cycle and ovulation discussion
- Discussion of previous pregnancies or losses
When to seek help sooner
If you are over 35, have irregular cycles, or have a known condition such as PCOS, thyroid disease or diabetes, it is worth speaking to a doctor before you start trying.
