Trying to conceive: when to seek help
4 min read
There is no need to wait indefinitely. Here is a simple guide to the timelines that usually prompt evaluation.

Usual timelines
Evaluation is generally advised after a year of regular unprotected intercourse without conception, or after six months if the woman is over 35.
Reasons to seek advice earlier
- Irregular or absent periods
- Known PCOS or endometriosis
- Previous pelvic surgery or infection
- Recurrent pregnancy loss
- Known male factor concerns
What to expect
Evaluation considers both partners and often spans a cycle or two, since some assessments are timed to specific days of the cycle.
